A neighbourhood between two towns
St Margarets sits on the A316 between Twickenham and Richmond, with the Thames on one side. Crown Road and St Margarets Road have cafes, restaurants and independent shops, and St Margarets station has regular trains to Richmond and Waterloo. It is a quiet area, but it is well placed for getting anywhere in the borough.
Typical drive times from St Margarets are about 5 minutes to central Twickenham and 5 to 10 minutes to Richmond town centre over Twickenham Bridge, depending on traffic around the St Margarets roundabout.
Twickenham Studios and creative work
St Margarets is home to Twickenham Studios, which has been making films for about a century. Crews and visitors often need early morning pickups and late returns. We work 24/7, so unusual hours are fine. Business visitors flying into Heathrow can be collected at the airport and taken straight to the studio or their hotel.
Marble Hill and the river
Marble Hill House, an 18th-century villa looked after by English Heritage, sits in its park beside the river, between St Margarets and Twickenham. From the riverside you can see across to Ham, and in summer the passenger ferry at Ham House runs across the Thames. For days out, we can drop you at the park entrance and pick you up later.
Match days in St Margarets
Although St Margarets is not right next to the stadium, the station fills up with fans on match days and some nearby roads get very busy. If you are travelling on an event day, book early so we can plan around it.
Airports from St Margarets
Heathrow is usually 25 to 35 minutes away. For trips further afield, we run to Stansted and London City. Families travelling together can book our 6 seater taxi.
Nearby areas
St Margarets borders Isleworth to the north and is just over the river from Richmond. Strawberry Hill is a short drive south. You can see all our local areas on the areas we cover page.
Local errands and evenings out
St Margarets has a village feel, with its restaurants, pubs and shops on Crown Road and St Margarets Road. For evenings out, a car home saves the walk or the wait for a train. For big shopping trips, larger supermarkets in Twickenham and Richmond are only minutes away.
Richmond Lock
Just downstream from St Margarets, Richmond Lock and its footbridge link the Twickenham bank with Richmond. It is a pleasant walk along the river, and many visitors combine it with a trip to Richmond. We can collect you at either end.
Getting to Richmond and Twickenham stations
St Margarets has its own station, but many residents need to catch faster trains from Richmond or Twickenham, or reach the Underground at Richmond for the District line. A short taxi hop can save a long walk with luggage, especially early in the morning or in bad weather. We are also happy to pick up from St Margarets station after a late train and take you home. For longer journeys, such as a trip to King's Cross or Euston, a direct car avoids changing trains with bags. Tell us your train time and we will plan around it.
Quiet streets, careful pickups
Many roads in St Margarets are residential and narrow, with parked cars on both sides. Our drivers will stop as close to your door as they safely can and, if needed, help you with luggage from the step to the car. If your road has a width restriction or permit parking that makes stopping awkward, let us know when you book and we will agree a better meeting spot nearby, such as a side road or the station forecourt. For match-day journeys the plan may need to change, so check our Whitton page for tips about stadium traffic.
